Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has clinched a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds, 9 ounces), prepared in partnership with Gino on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, September 12, 2025.
The achievement was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records (GWR) on Monday via a post on X, stating, "New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria." Baci, celebrated for her 2023 cook-a-thon that initially thrust her into the global spotlight, used a custom-built pot with a 22,619-liter capacity, filled to 80% for the attempt. GWR had publicly supported her effort, posting a video message on Friday wishing her luck.
The event drew a vibrant crowd of supporters, celebrities, and food enthusiasts, turning the cooking marathon into a cultural spectacle. Baci’s latest feat further elevates Nigerian cuisine’s global profile, following her previous record for the longest cooking marathon. Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo praised her effort, noting its boost to Nigeria’s culinary reputation.
The record-setting dish required meticulous planning, with Gino providing ingredients and logistical support. While exact preparation details were not disclosed, the event underscored Nigeria’s vibrant food culture and Baci’s role as a culinary ambassador. No official statements from Baci or Gino followed the announcement, but social media posts on X reflected widespread national pride.
